Located on the mainland to the north of Lamu Island and opposite Manda Island, this is a family owned lodge situated in a sheltered bay on the edge of the Indian Ocean. Across the dunes lie the Dodori and Boni game reserves and few places in the world can boast such seclusion. As a beach destination it is simply stunning.
There are 18 luxurious traditional styled thatch bandas spread along the sandy shoreline with woven matting floors and palm thatch roofs. They each offer a spacious bedroom with king size bed and locally made furniture, dressing area and open air en-suite bathroom with twin basins, shower with solar heated hot water, bidet and flushing toilet. Each has a veranda with panoramic views across the lagoon.
The lodge is exquisitely decorated. There is a shop, a central bar and dining room all built to blend into the natural surroundings. The food is excellent here with a definite Italian touch to the cuisine together with lots of fresh fruit and excellent fresh seafood.
18 beach-front en-suite bandas, plus 1 family banda. A secluded ensuite double bedroom honeymoon suite - Baobabs of Kitangani - is available at a considerable extra cost, 2 kms away across the bay.
Children of all ages welcome; reduced rates sharing.
Closed mid-April until last week in July.
The price is for full board, with water sports, Dhow cruising, and airstrip transfers included. Other excursions are extra.
Electricity by generator, morning and evening. WiFi available, as is mobile phone reception.
The honeymoon suite is intimate and secluded – a boat ride away on the opposite beach nestled amongst some baobab trees. Meals are served in your suite or on the beach with discreet staff and boatmen at your service. Wedding ceremonies can also be arranged here.
Here you can go game fishing, water skiing, snorkelling, windsurfing, bodyboarding, sailing or kayaking. Or you can canoe among the mangroves, take a boat trip to Lamu or a dhow cruise, walk along the beach or over the dunes. If this all sounds too energetic, you can just chill out and relax on the miles of deserted beaches with soft white sand. Green turtle and Hawksbill turtles frequent the beach and lay their eggs throughout the year.
