Mfangano Island Camp is an oasis of tranquillity set on the shores of Lake Victoria. This lodge is set in beautiful gardens in a secluded bay shaded by giant fig trees where fish eagles nest. This is a small remote unspoilt island camp. The island only has one road and no other lodges or camps. It is a 40 minute flight from the Maasai Mara National Reserve and then a short boat transfer to the camp.
Cottages are built in local Luo traditional tribal style with walls of mud and clay, and roofs of thatch and banana leaves. They are cool and airy with 4-poster beds. Each has a private veranda with sunbeds where you can be lulled into relaxation by the waves gently lapping on the shore. All 6 cottages are decorated with local handicrafts.
There is a central cosy sitting room where you can relax and listen to the waves or relax and read a book, and there is also an airy dining room. Both overlook the lake. Food here consists of fresh produce fished from the lake or grown in the vegetable gardens and orchards of the island. The camp also has its own swimming pool.
